ASYMCA operates at 16 dedicated branch locations and nine affiliated community YMCAs, as well as six Department of Defense/Department of Homeland Security affiliates worldwide. ASYMCA offers essential programs such as childcare, hospital assistance, spouse support services, food services, computer training classes, health and wellness services, and holiday meals, among many others. |

| Boots to Books |
The goal of Boots to Books is to assist the deployed, post-deployed, and veteran (DPV) student in making a positive transition from military to civilian life or from deployment to post-deployment life including college survival skills. This curriculum was developed to help the DPV student succeed in academics, work, family, and other social settings. The Boots to Books course will teach students interpersonal skills and techniques for managing Military Readjustment Transition Issues. The course will also help DPV students effectively manage military stress, combat reaction stress, operational stress, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Boots to Books is a for credit college course offered as "Counseling 160" through Citrus College in Glendora, CA. |

| Disabled Sports USA |
A national nonprofit, 501(c)(3), organization established in 1967 by disabled Vietnam veterans to serve the war injured. DS/USA now offers nationwide sports rehabilitation programs to anyone with a permanent disability. Activities include winter skiing, water sports, summer and winter competitions, fitness and special sports events. Participants include those with visual impairments, amputations, spinal cord injury, dwarfism, multiple sclerosis, head injury, cerebral palsy, and other neuromuscular and orthopedic conditions. |

The Winter Sports Clinic provides veterans with disabilities an opportunity for self-development and challenge through sports and leisure activities. In 2007, 124 newly injured military personnel participated in the Clinic – many for the first time, with more expected in 2008. At the Clinic, all participants are able to develop winter sports skills and take part in a variety of adaptive workshops, which demonstrate that having a physical or visual disability need not be an obstacle to an active, rewarding life. |

The Michigan National Guard Family Fund was created to assist Air and Army National Guard families who experience financial difficulties with temporary emergency financial assistance, and to fund programs and training to maintain and improve the quality of life of our Michigan National Guard families. The need for assistance can come from Emergency loss of income through activation for military duty, inability to maintain employment due to injury or sudden illness, or job loss; unexpected medical expenses; pay problems; or the accumulation of legitimate bills (e.g. rent, mortgage, electric, oil, gas, etc.). Inability to pay for basic needs: food, shelter, utilities, clothing, medical bills, and transportation due to unforeseen circumstances. Currently The Michigan National Guard Family Fund, provides for up to a 0 grant to soldiers and airmen and their family members who encounter financial hardships as a result of deployments, military injuries, or just hard times. |

National Military Family Association (NMFA) activities revolve around programs to educate the public, the military community, and the Congress on the rights and benefits of military families AND to advocate an equitable quality of life for those families. Members of the Government Relations Department study issues, testify before Congressional Committees, work with Congressional staff and represent NMFA on advisory groups for many DoD agencies, to include the Defense Commissary Agency Patron Council and the TRICARE Beneficiary Panel. Since its inception in 1969, the effectiveness of NMFA is reflected in accomplishments in most of the issue areas in which the association works. These include medical and dental benefits, dependent education, retiree and survivor benefits, relocation and spousal employment. NMFA staff speaks regularly to all types of groups, including family service organizations, Commanders' Conferences, and officer and enlisted spouse clubs. Sentinels of Freedom provide four year “life scholarships” to help vets become self-sufficient. Our vets are finding that once they’re released from the hospital, they face the everyday hardships of finding a home, continuing their education, or going to work to support their families. Every American faces the same difficulties, but in the vet’s case, the situation is made more difficult because of their sacrifice. The four-year program is meant for veterans with severe service-related injuries who have the aptitude, attitude, and drive to become independent and successful members of society. |

SLDN provides free, confidential legal services to all those impacted by DADT and related discrimination. Since 1993 they have responded to more than 9,000 requests for assistance. In Congress, SLDN is leading the fight to repeal DADT and replace it with a law that ensures equal treatment for every service member, regardless of sexual orientation. In the courts, SLDN is working to challenge the constitutionality of DADT. |

Servicemembers United is a non-partisan and non-profit organization whose primary goals are 1) to engage in education and advocacy on issues affecting gay and lesbian troops and veterans; 2) to serve as an associational organization for the gay and lesbian military, veteran, and defense community; 3) to represent the voice of Iraq/Afghanistan-era gay and lesbian troops and veterans; and 4) to forward and inform public debate on the U.S. military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. |

The Soldiers Project is a private, non-profit, independent group of volunteer licensed mental health professionals including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and marriage and family therapists. We provide free counseling and support to military service members who have served or who expect to serve in the Iraq and/or Afghanistan conflicts and to veterans of those conflicts. We see active duty as well as members of activated Reserve or Guard units. In addition, our services are available to the families and other loved ones of service members. We provide help to service members and families struggling with issues related to the overwhelming trauma of war including the cycle from pre-deployment to deployment to homecoming and re-entry to civilian life. SPAN USA is the nation's only suicide prevention organization dedicated to leveraging grassroots support among suicide survivors (those who have lost a loved one to suicide and those who have attempted suicide) and others to advance public policies that help prevent suicide. The organization was created to raise awareness, build political will, and call for action with regard to creating, advancing, implementing and evaluating a national strategy to address suicide in our nation. |

Veterans Court offers a therapeutic alternative and support services to US military service personnel who become involved with the criminal justice system, and who are in need of effective mental health treatment to address issues such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder “PTSD”, Traumatic Brain Injury “TBI” and other serious mental health problems. Veterans Court, which opened in November 2008 at the Community Court building, is a collaborative partnership with the Veterans Administration, which has funded a full-time case manager, and with other State and local veteran service providers. |

War causes wounds and suffering that last beyond the battlefield. Swords to Plowshares’ mission is to heal the wounds, to restore dignity, hope, and self-sufficiency to all veterans in need, and to significantly reduce homelessness and poverty among veterans. |
| TAPS - Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors |
The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) provides a support network for the surviving families of those who have died in service to America. To accomplish our mission, TAPS has a small professional staff and a large national volunteer network, managed by our Board of Directors and supported by our Honorary Board. We are grateful to those who give of their time and talent. Military and veterans' agencies provide exceptional services, but often those most in need of answers to complicated questions lack the energy and perseverance to track down information in an often complicated bureaucracy. TAPS has experienced, empathetic caseworkers who act as liaisons, assisting the family members in finding solutions to problems. Working hand in hand with the appropriate federal, state and private agencies, they have been successful in helping find solutions to problems that arise long after the official file has been closed. |

TIRR Foundation, in collaboration with Memorial Hermann TIRR received a three-year grant for Project Victory from the Iraq-Afghanistan Deployment Impact Fund of the California Community Foundation. The grant will provide for cognitive, physical, psychological, vocational and educational services to aid veterans who have sustained a mild to severe brain injury. The goal of Project Victory is help wounded service members recover and successfully re-integrate back into the community. |

Terri Spahr Nelson is a psychotherapist specializing in sexual trauma recovery and a national consultant and educator with expertise on sexual trauma in the US military. She completed her undergraduate and graduate education in clinical social work at the University of Texas at Austin and later participated in the Ohio Victim Trauma Treatment Training Project from 1991 to 1993 for advanced training with a specialization in sexual abuse treatment. She is also a member in good standing with the Academy of Clinical Social Workers (ACSW) and an affiliate member of the American Psychological Association, Trauma Division. |

We also have a family support account created with money generously donated to us, exclusively for use in supporting military families in the same tradition as Kentuckiana Cares. Trained and experienced Family Resource Coordinators mentor, coach and are the friendly voice that help those families that may not even know the right question to ask. USA Cares' assistance center is located in Radcliff, Kentucky; it serves a military that is serving in over 120 locations around the globe.It is the goal of USA Cares and its volunteers to help as many of our military families as possible. We will respond to every request, and a written reply will be sent to each requestor thanking them for their sacrifice and explaining the decision of the folks here in regards to whether or not the requested assistance could be provided. |

Veterans for America is an advocacy and humanitarian organization. The primary mission of VFA is to ensure that our country meets the needs of servicemembers and veterans who have served in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). VFA focuses specifically on the signature wounds these conflicts: psychological traumas and traumatic brain injuries. VFA concentrates much of its attention on the needs of those who are currently serving in the military since the majority of those who have seen combat in Iraq and Afghanistan are still in the military and under the care of the Department of Defense. |
