Founded in 1997, the American Pain Foundation is an independent nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization serving people with pain through information, advocacy, and support. Our mission is to improve the quality of life of people with pain by raising public awareness, providing practical information, promoting research, and advocating to remove barriers and increase access to effective pain management.
The American Pain Foundation (APF) began the Military/Veterans and Pain Initiative in 2004 to reach out to active military and veterans who are in pain and provide them with educational information, and support to improve their pain care, decrease their sense of isolation, and encourage them in their pursuit of a better quality of life for themselves and their families. APF also works to advance legislation and policy on national and state levels to improve pain care and increase pain research for members of the military and veterans populations.

The Paralyzed Veterans of America, a congressionally chartered veterans service organization founded in 1946, has developed a unique expertise on a wide variety of issues involving the special needs of our members—veterans of the armed forces who have experienced spinal cord injury or dysfunction.
Paralyzed Veterans will use that expertise to be the leading advocate for:
- Quality health care for our members
- Research and education addressing spinal cord injury and dysfunction
- Benefits available as a result of our members' military service
- Civil rights and opportunities which maximize the independence of our members
To enable PVA to continue to honor this commitment, we must recruit and retain members who have the experience, energy, dedication, and passion necessary to manage the organization and ensure adequate resources to sustain the programs essential for PVA to achieve its mission.

The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs.
Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. In addition to constructing new houses, Fisher House Foundation continues to support existing Fisher Houses and help individual military families in need. Families and friends of patients at any of the military's hospitals can now receive up-to-the-minute reports on a loved one by going to the patient's own customized web page, thanks to new services provided through CaringBridge. We are also proud to administer and sponsor Scholarships for Military Children, the Hero Miles program, and co-sponsor the Newman's Own Award.

Pillar One: To provide the necessary tools and therapies that are otherwise not being provided.
Pillar Two: To fund and promote physical and leisure/athletic activities that enhance the veteran’s physical and emotional well-being.
Pillar Three: Advocacy, Our goal is a nationwide network of volunteers who have “been there done that" who will act as guides for those following behind them. These family advisors help because they want to help and the experience that they bring can, and in many cases will be, more valuable than any
financial assistance that the fund may be in a position to provide.
